UPDATE: MacArthur Middle School stabbing

Posted:

Lawton_The 13-year-old MacArthur Middle School student who's accused of stabbing another 13-year-old girl has been charged in juvenile court in connection with the case.  The girl has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, as well as possession of a weapon on school grounds.

On Monday, the two girls got into a fight at the end of the school day in a corridor near the school's main entrance.  On Friday, the school held hearings for each girl and each told their side of the story separately.

The family of the girl who's accused of the stabbing has hired an attorney.  They chose not to make a public comment following their hearing.  Because of privacy laws, the school would also not say what happened.

Lawton Public Schools attorney Chuck Wade did comment on the district's overall safety record, as far as incidents of this type.  "This is our first serious injury," Wade said.   "Our personnel does the best they can with what they have."

The next court date for the girl accused of the stabbing is Tuesday.

Both girls still are not in school.
