House, car damaged in separate fires

Lawton_Fire forced two people from their home in northwest Lawton around 10 am Tuesday.

The home is located in the 6400 block of Northwest Cherry Ave.  Firefighters say most of the damage was contained to a bedroom.  Fire crews tell us both of the people inside the home were able to get out,  but one person was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.

No word on how the fire started.  The investigation has now been turned over to the state fire marshall.

An account has now been set up for the Staggs and Toller families, who lived in the home. If you'd like to help, contact the Fort Sill Federal Credit Union.

An unrelated fire damaged a car Tuesday afternoon in Lawton.  It happened at a gas station in the 2500 block of Sheridan Road.  A woman says she was about to fill up her gas tank when she noticed her car was on fire.  Employees at the station were quick to turn off the pumps before the fire spread.  No one was hurt in the incident.  No official word on what sparked the flames.
