Hearing set in alleged assault of autistic Marlow boy

MARLOW, OK-- A hearing is scheduled next month to gather evidence in the case of a nine-year-old autistic boy allegedly assaulted by his special education teacher.

Stephens County Special Judge Carl LaMar last week dismissed an aggravated assault and battery charge against the teacher, Donita Healer.

Prosecutors appealed LaMar's decision, and District Judge Allen McCall has scheduled a January 3rd hearing on the matter.

Lisa Branum, the boy's mother, is also a special education teacher in the Marlow Public School District. Branum says her son came home from school September 1st with severe bruising on his shoulders, back, chest and arms.

Branum and prosecutors are convinced those bruises were made by Healer, who they suspect forcibly held the child down in a desk chair.
