Arrest made after deadly car crash

Lawton, OK--A Fort sill soldier was killed in a car wreck late Thursday night in Lawton.  Police say a drunk driver caused the crash. They also say this is not the first time he's been drunk behind the wheel.  It happened at the intersection of Cache and Sheridan Road around 9:30pm Thursday.  Lawton police say the driver who caused the crash, Dustin Douglas Havron, 23, was arrested.

The victim, Jared Reid, 25, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.  He was a soldier stationed at Fort Sill. He had returned from Iraq about two months ago. He has a wife and kids.

Lawton police Chief Ronnie Smith says Reid was driving southbound on sheridan Road.

That's when witnesses say Havron ran a red light and slammed into Reid while traveling west on Cache Road.  Smith says the investigating officer smelled alcohol on Havron.

Investigators say Havron was charged with D.U.I. just two weeks ago.  Chief Smith says, in this case, Havron was arrested for D.U.I, first-degree manslaughter and failure to obey a traffic light.

He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries, and released.

Fort Sill officials say an open memorial service will be held for Specialist Jared Reid on Thursday afternoon.  It will be held at the Post Frontier Chapel.  The time has not been announced.
