Campus minister resigns after arrest in Cotton County sting

TAHLEQUAH, OK--  A Tahlequah minister arrested on sex charges in an Internet sting run by Cotton County authorities resigns.

Forty-five-year-old Charles Barry "Chuck" Shaffer is one of five men arrested last week on a complaint of committing lewd acts on a computer with a minor younger than 16.

Shaffer served as the leader of the Northeastern State University campus ministry sponsored by the South College Church of Christ.

He resigned last Tuesday, one day after he posted bond.

After he posted bond, a Cotton County Sheriff's office spokeswoman says Shaffer was taken by F-B-I agents to Lawton for possible federal action.

As of yesterday, Shaffer had not been charged either in Cotton County or by federal authorities. The U-S Attorney's office in Oklahoma City is investigating his case.
