COPY-Investigators identify man killed by Lawton Police officers

LAWTON-Police have now released the name of the man shot and killed by LPD officers Sunday night at a trailer park in South Lawton.  Police Chief Ronnie Smith identified the victim as Billy Whitmore, 33, of Lawton. Whitmore was shot and killed when police responded to a call about a stolen vehicle.  Smith says the suspect made "adversarial" moves which forced the officers to fire their weapons.  Whitmore ended up driving into an unoccupied trailer, which caused significant damage.  He died at the scene.  The officers, identified as Master Officer William Jenkins, and Officer James Julian, a rookie, have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation looks into the shooting.
