CEMENT-- Police say a man killed his own mother Sunday morning in Cement. Chief Larry Pewitt tells 7-News the victim has been identified as 78-year-old Opal Gibson. He believes her son, James Randal Gibson, strangled her in her apartment before taking off in her car. He was later arrested in Oklahoma City.

Cement police were first called to the apartment around 10:30 Sunday morning. "We were called to do a welfare check on a subject. Tried to make contact with the subject and at that point once we realized what we had, we contacted OSBI and the district attorney," said Chief Pewitt.

For most of the afternoon, local and regional authorities were on the lookout for James Gibson. The chief says he received a tip that he had gone to a drug rehab center in Oklahoma City. Police arrested him there around 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

He was booked into the Caddo County Jail tonight on a murder complaint. So far, the OSBI, who is assisting with the investigation, says they're not sure what led to the homicide.
