Elgin teenager killed in Rogers Lane crash

Lawton_ A teenager from Elgin was killed in a head-on collision on Rogers Lane, near I-44, Friday afternoon.  Two other people were injured in the crash, which shut down the road in both directions for three hours.

Lawton police say a driver heading east around 4:30pm on Rogers Lane lost control, jumped the median and hit a car in the westbound lane head-on. The young man driving the westbound car was killed.

He is John Svitak, 18, of Elgin. The school has postponed its scheduled athletic events Saturday, as a result of the crash.  A female passenger in that car, identified as Cody Mayes, 18, was taken to the hospital, but she has since been released.

The man driving the car that lost control was identified as Michael Trombley, 20, of Fort Sill.  He was admitted to Comanche County Memorial Hospital with serious leg and internal injuries.

It was raining at the time of the crash, but investigators have not determined if it played a role in the crash. The road was finally re-opened to traffic around 7:30pm Friday night.
