Virginia Tech gunman described as a "loner"

Cho Seung-Hui Cho Seung-Hui

BLACKSBURG, VA-- A Virginia tech spokesman says the gunman was "a loner."  And he says officials are having difficulty finding information about him.

The shooter has been identified as 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui, a senior from South Korea. He was an English major and lived in a dorm on campus.

An official with homeland security says Cho was a permanent legal resident of the U.S.

Cho committed suicide after the attacks, the first at a dorm on campus, the second inside a classroom building.  No word yet on a motive.

Law enforcement officials say his fingerprints were found on the guns used in both shootings.  The serial numbers on the two weapons had been filed off.

One shooting victim tells NBC Cho fired away in silence with "no specific target _ just taking out anybody he could."
