NEW YORK-- Relatives of victims of Virginia Tech shooter Cho Seung-Hui canceled appearances on NBC's "Today" show, to protest the network's decision to air Cho's video and pictures.
Host Meredith Vieira said the family members were "very upset" with NBC. Host Matt Lauer says there were "big differences of opinion" within NBC about whether any of the material should be aired. But he says the network decided to show some of the material, in hopes it will help people understand why the tragedy happened.
Cho sent a package filled with rambling, hate-filled video and written messages, and several pictures of him posing with a gun, to NBC news on the morning of the killings. It arrived in the mail two days later.
