Man shot to death in Vernon neighborhood

VERNON--Police in Vernon have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a man Monday afternoon in a residential area.  The victim has been identified as Daniel Contreras, 26.  Police say Contreras was a Mexican citizen.

Vernon Police responded to a call Monday afternoon that a man driving a silver Intrepid around the neighborhood had a gun. They were checking out that report when they found Contreras' body lying in front of a house in the 2400 block of Violet St.  He had been shot several times. 

Police say they have a suspect.  He's 37-year-old Dario Avilez-Nieto.  He was arraigned and charged with murder. His bond is set at $250,000.
