Lawtonian crowned Miss Oklahoma's Outstanding Teen

TULSA-- You might say something is in the water in Lawton. The city is now home to another state pageant title holder. Jamie Butemeyer is the new Miss Oklahoma's Outstanding Teen. It's the little sister pageant to Miss Oklahoma.

Sixteen-year-old Butemeyer beat out thirty other teen contestants to bring home the crown, competing in lifestyle & fitness, evening gown, and the talent competition. Jamie says she's  been dreaming about winning this title for a long time. "This is a three year journey for me and I finally got here, and I'm so excited now to get to compete for my ultimate goal at America's Outstanding Teen in Orlando," said Butemeyer.

In winning this crown, she's following in the footsteps of two of her idols... Starting with her mom, who is a former Miss Lawton. "It's something that we've shared together since she was a little girl. It's something we've enjoyed together. She was just a shining star on the stage Friday night and captured the crowd," said Linda Butemeyer.

Jamie is also following in the footsteps of another of her role models... Lauren Nelson, the reigning Miss America. Lauren held the Oklahoma teen title back in 2004, and as we all know now, that was just the beginning for Lauren. "Seeing her to be Miss Teen Oklahoma, then Miss Oklahoma, then Miss America, it's inspiring to every little girl, every teenager like me. I hope I can be just as successful as she is," said Jamie Butemeyer.
