LAWTON--The unrelenting rain has led to flooding in neighborhoods where it has never been a problem before. Streets that usually drain quickly are instead turning into small, but dangerous, swift-moving streams. County and city officials are urging drivers to travel only when necessary, and to use the main roads whenever possible.
More downstream flooding is likely in the next few days. Rising levels at Lake Lawtonka forced the city to open the floodgates late Thursday.
Emergency officials say if you find yourself stuck out on the roads, call 911 and evaluate the situation. Sometimes it's safer to stay in the car if you're still at a dry location. If you don't have a cell phone you need to make sure someone knows where your going in these weather conditions.
