LAWTON_Help is on the way for flood victims in Comanche County. FEMA announced on Friday that the county has been added to the list of those that qualify for individual assistance. It means people who've experienced any type of property damage due to recent floods could qualify for financial assistance.
Emergency management officials are urging victims to report all of their damage, no matter how little it may be.
"Even though they may have flood insurance, there's going to be costs over and above that," said Comanche County Emergency Management Director Clint Wagstaff. "We need to see if FEMA will recover some of the costs for people in Comanche County."
Wagstaff applauds local, state, and federal elected officials for pushing for the declaration. He says FEMA will soon open a disaster operation center in Lawton, much like the one that opened Friday south of the Red River for flood victims in Wichita and Archer counties.
