Lawton Police Department to use grant for new law enforcement equipment

Lawton_The Lawton Police Department is hoping a Federal Grant will help them buy a Shallow Water Rescue Boat for future flooding situations in the city.  LPD and the Comanche County Sheriff s Department are applying for an Edward Burns Memorial Grant, which would provide about $90 thousand for the boat and other law enforcement equipment.

After borrowing jet ski's and boats ffrom citizens for rescue efforts when people were trapped in their homes, they realized taht they didn't have a neighborhood patrol boat for majorly flooded areas like Garden Village.

The LPD has won the grant for the past couple of years and used the money to buy a high-tech driving simulator and new 800 mHz radios.

If you'd like to offer input on the grant, a public forum has been set for 6pm on Tuesday night at the Lawton City Council Chambers.
