Miss America keeping children safe from online predators

Washington, D.C._Lawton's own Lauren Nelson was a witness today before the Senate Commerce Committee. The reigning Miss America spoke on an issue that is very important to her.  Keeping children safe on the internet.

Miss Nelson said,  "Seventy-one percent of kids have a social networking site.  Sixty-four percent of those kids actually post pictures and videos of themselves on those sites, and over half of them leave information on the internet about where they're located and where they live...and this is part of the problem."

Nelson told lawmakers that she travels 20-thousand miles a month speaking about internet dangers.  She says the issue became important to her when she and some friends became the target of an internet predator after giving out too much personal information while online.
