Cavalry to auction basketball at "The Big Read"

LAWTON, OKLA.--  The Oklahoma Cavalry professional CBA basketball team will be participating in the End of Summer Youth Explosion and Lawton Public Library's Big Read Auction Saturday, September 8 in Lawton.

Two basketballs signed by President/General Manager Otis Birdsong and Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson will be auctioned off at the Big Read Auction taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Museum of the Great Plains located at 601 NW Ferris Ave.  Both Birdsong and Richardson are former four-time NBA All-Stars and were teammates while playing for the New Jersey Nets. 

Oklahoma Cavalry Dance Team members will also make an appearance at the Big Read Auction from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

Lawton Public Library is one of the national sites that have been selected to participate in the Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts to encourage literary reading.  All proceeds from the auction will help fund at least sixty activities to benefit the students of Lawton Public Schools and citizens of Lawton-Fort Sill community during this month-long
