Tributes across Texas to mark 9/11 anniversary

(AP) _ Tributes have been held across Texas today to mark the sixth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Some members of the Allied Pilots Association held a flag-lowering ceremony at their Fort Worth headquarters to honor the American Airlines crewmembers and other victims.  Two of the four commercial jets that were hijacked and crashed were operated by Fort Worth-based Americans.

Chaplains and others at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport gathered for the ringing of a silver fire bell and lowering of the flag to half-staff.

Governor Rick Perry has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff at state buildings in observance of Patriot Day -- September 11th.

People across Texas are also encouraged to fly their flags at half-staff.
