Competing term limits proposals expected in legislature

Oklahoma City_Separate bills addressing term limits are expected to be introduced during the next session of the Oklahoma Legislature.  One would expand term limits to additional offices while the other would repeal term limits.

State Senator Mary Easley of Tulsa wants to repeal the law which limits members of the state house and senate to no more than 12 years in office.   The law was passed by voters in 1990 but easley says she believes it gives more power to lobbyists and large corporations.

She says she's filing the legislation at the request of voters in her district and says it won't affect her because she's term limited anyway.  Meanwhile Senator Randy Brogdon wants to expand term limits to all statewide elected officials.  Brogdon's proposal would put a two-term limit on the governor, lieutenant governor, state auditor, attorney general, state treasurer, labor commissioner, state superintendent, insurance commissioner and corporation commissioner.
