Wichita Falls police officer shot; gunman killed

WICHITA FALLS-- A shootout between police and a gunman leaves one officer wounded and the suspect dead. According to police, officers were answering a 911 call about shots fired in the 800 block of Clay around 1:15 Sunday morning. When they arrived, a man indentified by authorities as 44-year-old Juventino Maldonado Suarez began shooting at them. One officer was hit as police returned fire and killed Suarez.

Police did not identify the wounded officer or disclose where the bullet hit. According to a press release, police say the injury is not life threatening.

The WFPD SWAT Team was later called in to search two houses for additional suspects, but none were located. Police say the department's office of professional conduct is investigating the shooting as per standard procedure.
