"The worst power outage in Oklahoma history"

Lawton_It's being called the worst power outage in Oklahoma history as ice storms knocked out electricity all over the state.  All 77 counties in Oklahoma are under a state of emergency, but it's not so bad in Lawton.

One of the areas hard hit by the storm, though is just north of Lawton in the Sterling/Elgin area.  Cotton Electric Co-op was out in full force Monday and one worker says he worked on numerous outages, probably about fifteen since 6am.

But, before they could even get to the homes without power, they had to get past a lot of barriers - there were lots of fallen trees.  "Just getting into it sometimes that's the hardest thing," says Jackey Glenn.

But, once they get going, the job gets finished quickly.  They fixed one house in less than half an hour.  At the next destination a tree limb was so thick with ice it was weighing down a power line.

Forecasters are calling for more precipitation which means that if temperatures stay below freezing, trees like that will continue to accumulate ice, falling on power lines and causing more outages across Texoma.  Police are urging drivers to also not park under trees - they could seriously damage your vehicle.
