Overnight shooting leads to soldiers death

Lawton_A shooting at "Club Alibis" near Sheridan and Lee Blvd. in Lawton left a man dead just before 11 Monday night.  Police say when they arrived on the scene, they found 27-year-old Fort Sill soldier Ira Easterling lying on the ground outside the club.  He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Lawton Police Chief Ronnie Smith says in reports made of an altercation occurring outside the club where the victim was found.  References were made to colors worn by persons involved in the incident.  "Our gang task force was called in because there is some gang affiliation there.  We don't know much yet, but are actively looking for the suspect."

Smith says police believe they know the identity of the shooter, and although authorities say the suspected shooter is a dependent of a Fort Sill soldier, the District Attorney would prefer that his name remain anonymous for now.

Fort Sill did not immediately return our calls requesting additional information.  Easterling was an aspiring artist performing at "Club Alibis" the night he was killed.

Chief Smith says LPD has not had any problems with this area or club in the past.  He urges anyone with information about this shooting to call Crimestoppers at 580-355-INFO.  Callers can remain anonymous and may receive a cash reward if information leads to an arrest.
