Seniors celebrate Valentine's Day at Comanche County Nutrition Center

Lawton_Almost one hundred seniors celebrated Valentine's Day in Lawton at Comanche County's Nutrition Center.  This year the center had live entertainment - singers from Eisenhower and Lawton High Schools.

The Nutrition Center wants to make sure senior citizens in Lawton know they are loved, cared for, and special on cupid's holiday.  The celebration featured were balloons, candy hearts, and singers serenading the seniors.

Lindsay Barns, Eisenhower High School's Vocal Director says the kids enjoy it almost as much as the seniors do.  "We advertised for what we call ‘Singing Valentines'," she says.  "People can order a song, and then we send it to groups throughout Lawton, and help people have a happy Valentine's Day."  She says it's a great experience for the students.  "It's a really positive experience, it gives them a way to give back to their community, and give to others."

To top it off, seniors enjoyed a wonderful meal at the event.  Julie Justice is the director of all seven Nutrition Centers in the area, and says she was pleased to see so many new faces.  "It's one way to bring in new participants," she says.  "A lot of these people are guests, and some of these come in every day to make them more aware of the program."

Justice says they try to do something special for every holiday, so if you missed today's fun, keep the center in mind in the future.  For more information on Comanche County Nutrition Center's seven sites, call 580-357-7764.
