Jackson County_Sheriff Roger Levick says that 16 Jackson County residents were arrested early Thursday morning on the accusation that they were stealing from an elderly woman, and using the money to purchase drugs.
Levick says the sweep started with Blair Police who called in the Department of Human Services, Adult Protective Services, to help with the probe. Police say the suspects were not only stealing the money, but were also buying cocaine with it.
Among the charges the 16 face are: exploitation of the elderly, conspiracy, and obtaining money by false pretense. One more suspect is being sought in the case.
Other agencies assisting in the sweep include: Altus Police, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, US Marshals Service, and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office.
