LPS may have to cut some extracurriculars due to budget constraints

Lawton_At a meeting on Thursday evening regarding the failed bond proposals form the election this week, the Lawton Public School Board is now talking about making some serious cuts to the districts budget.

The cuts would include possible layoffs of non-classroom personnel, like administrators, librarians, and counselors.  For now, it seems that teachers will be spared.

Superintendent of Schools Barry Beauchamp says they're also investigating cutting bus routes and extracurricular activities like band and sports programs.

At this time, these options are only being considered as possible cuts, and board members have asked Beauchamp to look into the issue more closely.  He will report his findings at the meeting on June 2.
