The Vernon Fire Department reports that there is a boil order for those using water for human consumption in the Vernon City Limits, due to the power outage affecting the water system. It is as a result of the high winds with the storm with many power lines and trees and limbs down, causing extensive roof damage.
Damage assessment is underway and a Red Cross Shelter is open at the Wilbarger County Courthouse in Vernon for those needing shelter.
One injury reported happened when an electrician stepped on a rake, the man was not life threatening. The crews from AEP have come from as far away as Abilene to help restore power, and a Fire Department spokesman says resulting conditions from the storm are due to winds they estimated at 60 to 70 miles per hour.
