Texoma roads closed due to severe flooding

Heavy rain has left a number of Texoma roadways closed this morning.

Police are advising caution as you head out the door and to not drive through flood waters.

According to officials, one lane is now open on I-44 in the Burkburnett area.  Traffic is moving very slowly. You may want to change your travel plans, if they take you through the Burkburnett area.

Another significant closing to report due to flooding is Highway 36. That's south of I-44 in the Red River Casino area. Once again, you may want to avoid that area, at least until the rain stops.

Also, severe flooding in Waurika has multiple locations under water. Emergency Management Personnel and firefighters have been busy through the night. Parts of Highways 70 and 81 have also been under water, but they are open at this time. Officials say there have been reports of water starting to come into houses. The Waurika Fairgrounds have been opened for anyone needing shelter.

Wichita Falls is also facing problems caused by the flooding.   According to officials, about 40 people have been rescued from their homes, and a search boat is out looking for more. Fire officials say you should call 911 if you are stranded in your home.  If you need shelter in Wichita Falls, the City View Baptist Church is open.
