Winds add fuel to fire as firefighters battle morning blaze

Geronimo_Firefighters in Geronimo had a tough time on Wednesday morning as they fought a house fire in howling winds.  The fire broke out at about 9 a.m. at a vacant house on the corner of Oklahoma and Paiute streets.

Firefighters say that they opened the doors to the house in order to extinguish the blaze, but winds ripped through the house adding more fuel to the flames.

Two women said they grew up in the house, but their brother had recently moved out, so it was vacant.

Comanche County Emergency Manager Clint Wagstaff says the home was used for storage of scrap metals and refurbishing supplies.  The home is a total loss, and the State Fire Marshal's office says it's taking samples and sending them to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
