Texans killed in Iraq Chinook crash identified

The Department of Defense has officially identified the seven Oklahoma and Texas National Guardsmen killed in last week's helicopter crash in southern Iraq.  Last week, family members in Oklahoma confirmed the deaths of the three Oklahomans killed, and on Monday, 7News learned the names of the four members of the Texas National Guard who died.

They are:

  • 38-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Corry Edwards of Kennendale
  • 37-year-old Sergeant Anthony Mason of Springtown
  • 28-year-old 1st Lieutenant Robert Vallejo, II, of Richland Hills.
  • 54-year-old Sergeant First Class Julio C. Ordonez of San Antonio

The Oklahomans killed are:

  • Sergeant Dan Eshbaugh of Norman
  • Corporal Mike Thompson of Kingston
  • Chief Warrant Officer Brady Rudolph of Moore

All seven were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 149th Aviation, 36th Combat Brigade.  The military continues to investigate what caused the Chinook to go down last Thursday, but officials have ruled out hostile fire and suspect a mechanical malfunction may be to blame.
