Plane makes emergency landing in Stephens County

STEPHENS COUNTY_ A pilot and his mother were forced to make an emergency landing Sunday afternoon in Stephens County two miles west of Duncan. The pilot reports the plane they were in suffered engine problems. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and FAA say the pilot took off from the Duncan airport and was circling some of their property on County Road 278 between Plato Road and Elk Road.

At some point, the pilot tells investigators the plane lost power, so he tried to glide into a field. "When he did he clipped a fence," said OHP Trooper John Hoover.  "When he hit the soft ground , the landing gear on the aircraft collapsed and came to rest where it is."

Troopers say both the pilot and his mother walked away from the crash and were not hurt. FAA records show the plane is registered to Donald Holloway of Edmond. OHP says FAA investigators will determine what went wrong with the aircraft.
