Time for Oktoberfest!

Lawton_It's time for Oktoberfest in Lawton, and this year's theme was "Far From Sober."  The Lawton German-American Club's annual event kicked off on Friday, and is sure to be fun-filled.  A lot of work goes into planning the event, and thousands of bratwurst, four hundred pounds of potatoes, and 80 gallons of sauerkraut are expected to be served.

While setting up for the Oktoberfest in the festival hall, grills were fired up, and the stage set for another great event.  When the band plays, dancers take to the floor, and one favorite is the famous Chicken Dance.  Karl Waldbauer is the club's president of the Polka Kings who will be playing, dancing, and singing polkas and waltzes on center stage.

In the afternoon the kitchen prepared to cook, cook, cook.  "We have several thousand bratwurst and rolls, and all this stuff, to make sure it's ready to go," he said.  Sauerkraut, brats, leberkaese - there will be plenty of food to go around, and of course plenty of draft beer and Jagermeister on tap to wash it all down.

Waldbauer says he needs a little lubrication before he gets out on the dance floor, but Oktoberfest caters to adults and kids of all ages are sure to have a blast.  ". We've have lot's of fun things for everybody," he said.

Oktoberfest will last until midnight on Friday, and will go on from noon until midnight on Saturday at the Great Plains Coliseum, at 920 S. Sheridan Road.  Admission for adults is $3, and free for kids 18-years-old or younger.
