Wind and dry grass fuel Comanche County wildfire

COMANCHE COUNTY_ A grassfire in east Comanche County kept volunteer firefighters from seven different departments busy Sunday afternoon. The blaze started somewhere between 75th street and Trail Road along Gore Boulevard.

Once the flames ignited the tall grass, the gusty wind conditions began pushing the fire to the northeast. Firefighters were able to stop it before it could cross Cache Road a mile away. They did however run into a problem with the terrain.

"There's a ravine down there, and finally when we got the road grater in, he built us a road across there and we could stop it from going north," said Cox's Store VFD Chief Al Dreves.

Firefighters planned to watch for hot spots throughout the evening. Investigators were trying to determine how the blaze started.
