Conservation Plan Proposed for Lesser Prairie Chicken, Sand Dune Lizard

Landowners, Energy Companies and Ranchers need to work together to help protect and restore habitat for the lesser prairie chicken and the sand dune lizard in our area of New Mexico.

That's the opinion of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

They have proposed entering into voluntary candidate conservation agreements with private landowners, and those who lease the land from the Federal Government in areas where the species live.

The lesser prairie chicken and the lizard are both candidates for possible protection under the Endangered Species Act.

You have until November 20th to comment.
