Firefighters battle massive blaze in Cyril

Cyril_A fire is downtown Cyril is contained but still burning. As of 10:15 p.m., firefighters were still on scene and they believe the fire will burn throughout the night. Throughout the day and into Monday night, as many as 5 fire departments worked to control the flames shooting out of the roof of the Scoggins Home Furnishings Store. Some were shooting higher than phone poles.

The fire started about 2:30 Monday afternoon. Owner Jerry Scoggins says he left his store for about 10 minutes. When he returned, he smelled smoke, closed the door and called for help. No one was inside the store at the time. He estimates at least $500,000 in damage. "I lost lots of test equipment, I do warranty service. I lost all my tv parts, all my appliance parts, and all of my service manuals, all of my technical data manuals, and all of my readers that read the microfische," said Scoggins.

The flames spread to the vacant grocery store next door. A nearby motel, The Hucklebrry Inn, was evacuated because of heavy smoke.

The town of Cyril's water supply wasn't enough, so Comanche County Eastern District came in with a tanker, as well as crews from Elgin, Fletcher, Cement and Apache.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. We know no one was hurt.
