Altus_Press Release_Citizens of Altus and Jackson County again have a short window of opportunity to obtain reimbursement for the new construction of a storm cellar or safe room, announce emergency management officials here.
"Late last year, an effort was made to determine who might be interested in getting the majority of their storm cellar paid," said Lloyd Colston, emergency manager for City of Altus. "A total of 77 of your neighbors indicated that interest."
The State Emergency Management office called Colston late Tuesday to have him see if there was even more interest.
"This is a good program," said Jerry Gibson, Jackson County Emergency Manager. "It's important to understand the conditions for the program."
The program is available to homeowners living inside Jackson County. The program is designed to reimburse the cost of the installation of the storm cellar up to a cap of $3000.
Those who registered last month need no register again. To register, Citizens should go to
to complete the registration form before next Tuesday.
