Need a job? The census is hiring

Lawton_If you're looking for a job, Uncle Sam wants you!  The US Census Bureau is kicking off a massive campaign to hire census takers for 2009.  In Oklahoma alone, the Census Bureau is looking for more than 3,000 temporary workers to help count heads.

The census is taken every ten years, and determines a number of things.  "The census is really critical to every state," said Shari Otto with the US Census Bureau.  "A massive amount of information, as far as electoral votes - all the funding that the states get is determined by the census, so every person counts."

If you would like to help with this year's census, you must be 18 years or older, and have a valid social security number, pass a general competency test, and a security check.  The pay is as high as $17 per hour for some positions, but you must be able to work 20-40 hours per week.  For more information on testing dates, call 866-861-2010 or visit
