Norman_The University of Oklahoma plans to use a $2.6 million grant to provide scholarships for nurses who want to become teachers specializing in geriatrics.
OU's Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence is getting the grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. Center Director Lazelle Benefield says nurses trained in geriatrics are in demand as baby boomers get older and require more health services.
Benefield says by increasing the number of nursing faculty the school can enroll more nursing students.
