Duncan_Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins made her candidacy for governor official Thursday morning. She made the formal announcement to run in 2010 in her hometown of Duncan. "We have an opportunity to lead the way in medical research, renewable energy, aerospace, government reform, and in many other areas. All we need is a determined, bi-partisan, tireless leadership. That's all I offer, and that's what I promise," Askins said
Askins said she's been asked for more than a year if she was planning to run for governor, so she said she wanted to make her decision public and official as soon as possible. "There's hardly an event I attend that regular working Oklahomans don't come up and have a conversation with me about the kind of leadership they want us to have in our next Governor, and they have encouraged me to take on that task."
Askins began her career in public service as a judge in Stephens County, and made the announcement in her old courtroom. She said it was there that she developed the sense of justice that she believes every government official should have.
