LAWTON, OK (KSWO) - A Lawton boy spent his summer break holding canned food drives for those in need. Now, he’s hoping his efforts will help him make it onto the Ellen Show.
It’s all a part of the “Ellen and Cheerios One Million Acts of Good.”
"I love Ellen,” said Colton Never.
Six-year-old Colton Never held two canned food drives this summer with the help of his mother Jessica Never. Jessica said to her surprise he got the idea from a school project.
“Making the world a better place and that’s what you wanted to do,” said Jessica.
Colton collected one hundred cans and 300-dollars to donate to Lawton’s Hungry Hearts Feeding Ministry this summer. He was also nominated for Lawton’s Citizen of the Month.
Jessica said that’s just the type of person her son is, always looking for ways to give back.
“He just has the biggest heart and such a love for others around him,” she said. “Everyone he meets he always leaves them with a smile. He’s just a very sweet boy.”
"Have to get food because everyone doesn’t have food,” said Colton.
Both have watched the Ellen show for years. Colton said if he does make it on the show he’d want to play his favorite game the one-eyed monster with her.
As for Jessica, she plans to help Colton with another food drive during winter break and said her hope is that he continues to do the right thing.
“I think if he gets this kind of recognition he’ll understand how important it is to give back to your community,” said Jessica. “We love Lawton and love living here so, anything to give back and make the community better. And it’s all his idea and that’s what matters to us as long as we continue to nurture his kindness.”
