LAWTON, OK (RNN Texoma) - A shooting on the south side of Lawton is now a homicide investigation. Since we first told you about the shooting Sunday, we’ve learned the victim died and we know his identity. The family said it was 15-year-old Brian Brown Jr. that was shot and killed.
Neighbors in the area where the shooting happened want to know what happened after police spent more than a day and a half in their neighborhood investigating the shooting. The police department is releasing very little information about what happened.
Neighbors 7NEWS talked to didn’t want to go on camera but said they heard two pops early Sunday morning and didn’t think much about it until they saw police doing CPR on a victim lying in the middle of the street. Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers spent nearly two days collecting evidence from the scene. They shut down Bishop road between 12th and 14th street and 13th street between Oklahoma Ave. and Bishop. Sgt. Jenkins said because of the size of the scene, they had multiple divisions out there helping.
“We have a lot of officers that are man powering the scene, going on doing different jobs such as collecting evidence, shooting pictures of everything that was out there that we found,” he said.
He said they're trying to figure out exactly what happened.
"We're still interviewing witnesses and talking to people about the incident, but trust me, we are working as much as we can diligently to solve this crime and bring citizens closure," Sgt. Jenkins said.
The department isn’t saying if they have anyone in custody or if they have suspects at this time. They ask that you call Crime Stoppers of Southwest Oklahoma if you know anything about this shooting.
