FORT SILL, OK (RNN Texoma) - A group of graduating students from Oklahoma City Public Schools got a behind the scenes tour of Fort Sill.
The goal was to give them an idea of what careers are available in the military, especially in the fields of healthcare and audio-visual television production. The students got to rotate between three buildings on post to see field artillery simulators, Air Defense Artillery and more.
They say it’s something they haven’t gotten to experience in Oklahoma City.
“They get to see things here they don’t see anywhere else. When we go to the hospital here, we can see behind the scenes and the real action. They let them inside. It’s a teaching facility. Whereas when we go to a large hospital in the city, they’re not necessarily able do that because of the work environment and their patient load. So they opened up to show these kids what it’s like to work here," said D.J. Bowker of Oklahoma City Public Schools.
This was the first time Fort Sill has hosted of tour of this kind. They’re hoping it will encourage more students to join the military.
