OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (RNN Texoma) - Hundreds of soldiers from Fort Sill are stranded at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City due to the weather. The men and women were flying in from their holiday breaks, but due to the dangerous road conditions, buses have not been able to pick them up.
That means the service members will be spending the night at the airport.
“One of the challenges for us is that we are a smaller airport. We don’t have a lot of big empty spaces," said Karen Carney with the Will Rogers World Airport. “We have the YMCA military welcome center and it has a whole group of volunteers working today, providing food, water.”
As of Thursday night, there are more than 400 soldiers at the airport, but there will be between 800 and 900 by tomorrow morning.
