ELGIN, OK (TNN) - A standoff between law enforcement and an Elgin man on Saturday lasted over four hours.

Around 10 a.m. Saturday morning, officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence near 4th Place and Oak Street. At least three different agencies were on scene, including Elgin Police, Sterling Police, and the Comanche County Sheriff’s Department.

Roads in the neighborhood were blocked off, preventing anyone from coming in or leaving the perimeter of the scene. Officers also urged neighbors to stay inside their homes until it was deemed safe.

The Elgin Police Chief said the man was in possession of weapons, but did not use them.

Around 2:30 p.m., law enforcement was able to negotiate with the man to leave his home. Officials said he was taken into custody for a mental health evaluation.
