LAWTON, OK (TNN) - The Lawton community enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and art at the Leslie Powell Foundation Gallery’s opening of two new art exhibitions Saturday evening.
The “Eight” and “Mutable Landscapes” galleries premiered tonight and will run through to next month. “Eight” is a collection of oil paintings reflecting the challenges women face in this era. “Mutable Landscapes” uses abstract expressionism and mixed media to explore color, shape and texture.
The gallery’s executive director said although the artists have different styles, they both have really strong, powerful color in their pieces.
“It’s not really soft and subtle or anything. It’s in your face and it’s really awesome," said Matthew Hughes. "That’s why I wanted to put them together, is because I thought they would work well off of each other. They have different styles and different subjects, but the way they work is similar, so it’s kind of got some cohesiveness, but it’s also dissimilar enough that you don’t wonder whose is whose.”
The new installations will remain on display through Friday, February 22nd. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m.
