LAWTON, OK (TNN) - On Sunday people in Lawton stood in line to get medical marijuana cards.
Since 10 a.m., Avenue Tattoo Studio and Med Dispensary has been hosting a medical marijuana patient drive. Hundreds visited the tattoo studio Sunday for the drive, with many seen waiting in line outside the building.
Inside the studio, a doctor met with patients to discuss their medical needs and to write recommendations for medical marijuana cards.
“It’s a good way to get your card, rather than trying to figure out which doctor to go to and drive to and schedule an appointment," said Andrew Patterson, owner of Avenue Tattoo Studio. "People just pop in and that’s probably why we’re so busy. Also, I think we’re $150 is what people are paying here. I believe that’s substantially lower than the going rate, but I’m not positive.”
Patterson said after receiving a recommendation, the patient must file with the OMMA, Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority. It then takes about 1-2 weeks for them to receive their medical marijuana card. At that point, the patient can legally purchase medical marijuana at any dispensary in town.
