LAWTON, OK (TNN) -A local pastor is sharing his love for art at a meet and greet Saturday held at Susan’s Framing.
Greg Erway started out painting before he began to draw. He’s now been drawing for about seven years, and became serious about it two years ago. Erway said a friend challenged him to start doing portraits. Here you see him drawing artist, Pablo Picasso.
“I found after a few failed attempts, I found that I really like it, and so I am really inspired by faces. Both faces of people, but not just people, I do a lot of animals and I love doing portrait work," said Erway.
Susan Secor, owner of Susan’s Framing started showcasing local artists once a month back in December. She said it’s a nice feeling to be able to show local talent.
“Oh it means a lot to me because I feel like we need to give back to our community, and I think you need to grow where you’re planted, and we were planted here when we were stationed here in the military and so we retired here for many years now, and so I feel like it’s a way to give back," said Secor.
Erway said to any artists starting out, it’s good to get a good basic education somehow.
“There’s a lot of training you can get for free from the internet honestly. I’ve watched I don’t know how many videos, and you kind of take what makes sense and dump the rest. By going to school is certainly an option and getting a good basic knowledge of art, drawing," said Erway.
He said he wants to continue to do more meet and greets in the future. You can see more of Erway’s art on his Facebook page “Greg Erway Artist” and also see who will be at the next meet and greet on “Susan’s Frame Shop” Facebook page.
