LAWTON, OK (TNN) - The Lawton Post Office unveiled the newest addition to their Black Heritage stamp collection.
This year, the postal service is honoring the life and work of renowned actor and tap dancer Gregory Hines. He was best known for his unique style of tap dancing. It’s signified by his stamp, which features him kneeling and showing off the bottom of his tap shoes.
J.T. Hoffman, the Postmaster in Lawton, said Honoring these historical figures is something out Post Office takes pride in.
“I think it just brings to light and sheds a little bit of light on how influential each individual is that’s on the actual stamp each year,” Hoffman said. “It gives you a little bit of knowledge of how they were important to the African American community.”
The Lawton chapter of the NAACP was in attendance for today’s unveiling ceremony.
