FORT SILL, OK (TNN) - Fort Sill firefighters battled a fire on the East Range Wednesday evening.
The fire was contained shortly after 6:30 p.m. Crews stayed behind focusing on hot spots until around 9:30.
The fire started outside of the impact area.
Elgin and Wichita Mountain Estates fire departments were called to be on standby but have been released.
Fort Sill has six brush trucks, a tanker, two command vehicles, and an aviation unit from Fort Hood with a CH47 Chinook helicopter on scene. While the fire wasn’t very large at only 65 acres burned, much of it was inaccessible to trucks.
A solider was checked at hospital because of smoke inhalation, but was released.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.
