LAWTON, OK (TNN) - There was a very special blood drive at Lawton Central Mall on Saturday... It was the third annual Ella’s Army Blood Drive.
Five year old Ella is a pediatric liver transplant recipient. She and her family started the blood drive to give back to the community, who gave so much to them while Ella was undergoing her many treatments.
On Saturday, the community showed their support by donating blood and also by donating prizes.
“I want to bring awareness to what a blood drive can do and where that blood goes and how many people you can help when you give blood," said Mark Gorgoglione, Ella’s Father. "It’s a big deal and I don’t think a lot of people understand.”
“They don’t get a face to what they’re actually doing or who they’re helping,” said Chelsey Gorgoglione, Ella’s mother. “So, being able to go out and say strangers saved her, and, you know, maybe you can too.”
Mark said these days Ella is a very healthy and happy little girl, and only has to do check ups every few months.
