Bill Maxwell first received his Purple Heart back in 1951, however, his official documents were missing. After a year of gathering information, on Saturday Bill was given his proper certificates in a ceremony at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Cache. He was surrounded by his friends and family, with some even traveling from across the country to join Bill for his special day.

“I don’t have a big family, but I’m glad they were here. It’s very nice," said Maxwell. “I didn’t know all of this was going to happen. They kept it a pretty good secret.”

Many spoke at Bill’s ceremony, including his caregiver, Dawn, who took it upon herself to help get the proper documents for Bill’s Purple Heart.
